Ultra High Vacuum

For a UHV compatible system, depending on the level of vacuum required, ADC would perform a bake-out at 200ºC and an RGA to verify its compatibility with beamline vacuum systems.

If a system is required to operate at or above 10E-8 mbar, typically the system is thoroughly cleaned and inspected, but not baked out. As an option, customers may request that the system be baked and an RGA performed to demonstrate cleanliness. The base pressure of the system is then checked using a 300 l/s turbo pump and a cold cathode gauge. The data is recorded and presented with the system.

For vacuums 10E-9 mbar or better, the system is always baked out and an RGA is completed to demonstrate the cleanliness of the system. Again, all data is made available to the customer.

UHV Wire

When in vacuum, cables will consist of Kapton insulated single wires. The cables will be protected wherever possible from radiation by enclosing in stainless steel tube or flexible conduit. Wires will be crimped using standard UHV connectors or brazed. All components used will be bakeable.

Limit Switches

Each actuated drive includes two limit switches to define the two extreme positions of each motion. The limit switches are NC (normally closed) contacts and are externally mounted and manually adjustable, wherever possible.

Labeling and Identification

Where prudent, ADC will provide both informational and safety warning labels resistant to abrasion, smudging, heat, moisture, solvents, and radiation. Labels are typically affixed with screws or rivets, but when applicable, an adhesive is used.

Slits Repeatability Tests

Each slit blade goes through a series of tests before it is shipped out. ADC thoroughly tests all relevant aspects of the slit systems to ensure the highest quality for our customers. Using state-of-the-art equipment, ADC verifies the accuracy, repeatability, and parallelism of each set of blades. Our technicians then generate reports to be presented to the customer with the completed system.

  • Each axis is individually tested for working limits and drive motion
  • All cabling and wiring is pin for pin checked for conductivity and shorts
  • Each blade is tested for repeatability using a Keyence LS-7501 & LS-7030
    • Technical Details on the LS-7030
    • Measuring range: 0.3 to 30mm
    • Smallest detectable object: 0.3mm
    • Measurement accuracy: ±2µm
    • Repeatability: ±0.15µm
