Secondary and Tertiary Apertures

These apertures are designed for use with an undulator beam produced at a machine energy of 5.3 GeV and current of 250 mA.  Both are constructed from a solid block of copper with the aperture cavity cut out using wire EDM.  A single cooling channel is milled into the block and covered with copper plates.  The apertures connect to the facility cooling system using 45° flare fittings, and connect into the beamline with rotatable 4.5” CF flanges at each end. The table below summarizes the dimensions of the two apertures, while the cutaway views further illustrate the internal arrangement and cooling channels.
